Before you ask to connect

Questions and answers.

The questions patients ask before they ask to connect with a TrueKnee surgeon, answered plainly. If yours is not here, write to hello@trueknee.com.

About TrueKnee

What is a TrueKnee?

A TrueKnee is a knee replacement done to the TrueKnee Standard: your knee resurfaced to the shape and alignment you were born with, by a selected surgeon, with a Navigator who handles the arrangements, a 3D plan of your knee, a defined recovery, and a community of surgeons and patients learning from every case. The Standard page describes all six.

Is TrueKnee a hospital, a clinic or a practice?

No. TrueKnee is a standard and a program. Your surgery happens at your surgeon’s own practice and at the hospital or surgery center that practice uses, and both keep their own names. A practice where a TrueKnee surgeon works is a TrueKnee Center.

Does TrueKnee employ the surgeons?

No. TrueKnee does not employ surgeons. Each TrueKnee surgeon practises at their own practice or hospital, is designated by TrueKnee on a stated date, and is held to the TrueKnee Standard. Other surgeons at the same practice are not TrueKnee surgeons unless they are listed.

Where are TrueKnee surgeons today?

six today, each at their own practice: Cumming, Georgia; New Albany, Ohio; Lee's Summit, Missouri; Fort Worth, Texas; Alexandria, Virginia; and Maywood, Illinois. Each has a page with a photograph, a biography written from the practice’s own profile, and a button to ask to connect.

Who is the TrueKnee Navigator?

The person from TrueKnee who handles the arrangements with your surgeon’s office: appointments and follow-ups, the information you have already shared, your pre-visit report and imaging with your permission, and the questions still open. The Navigator is not a clinician and does not give medical advice. You are introduced to your Navigator by name.

Can I choose a different TrueKnee surgeon?

Before you enroll, yes. Choose any TrueKnee surgeon, and choose again if you change your mind. Asking to connect does not commit you, and choosing a surgeon does not confirm an appointment or a practice’s acceptance of your case. After you enroll, talk to your Navigator.

Cost and insurance

What does a TrueKnee cost?

The TrueKnee program, your 3D plan, your Navigator and the TrueKnee recovery program, is $3,000, paid to your practice when you enroll. Cancel any time before your operation and the full $3,000 is returned. The surgery itself is billed to your insurance separately, as any knee replacement is.

Does insurance cover a TrueKnee?

The surgery, yes, as any knee replacement, subject to your plan’s own rules on network, authorization and your share of the cost. The $3,000 TrueKnee program, no. The TrueKnee program is outside insurance: it is not a medical charge, it is not submitted to your plan, and no insurance plan is expected to cover it.

Is TrueKnee part of my employer’s surgery benefit?

TrueKnee is not yet part of any employer surgery-benefit network. If your employer offers one, say so and your Navigator will explain what it covers.

Can I enroll or pay on this website?

Not yet. Online enrollment is not open and no payment is collected on this website. Enrollment happens with your practice, after Navigator availability and the service terms have been confirmed with you.

The surgery

Is a TrueKnee a knee replacement?

Yes. It is a total knee replacement performed by the TrueKnee technique: the worn surfaces are resurfaced to your own shape and alignment rather than to a standard straight target, and no soft tissues are released to make the knee fit the implant. The technique page explains why it is done this way.

What is the 3D plan?

A plan of your own knee, made from a CT scan your surgeon orders, in the knee’s own frame of reference, reviewed and approved by your surgeon before surgery. It begins with the first TrueKnee surgeries; a labelled sample shows what it looks like.

Am I a candidate?

Only a surgeon can say. Two free steps come first: your KneePrint, a one-minute self-check of which way your knee leans, and the Fit Score, which prepares the conversation about whether surgery is right for you. Neither is a diagnosis, and neither sends anything to a surgeon until you choose one.

How quickly can I be seen?

Timely access is one of the criteria every TrueKnee surgeon is held to, and each surgeon’s page prints it. A TrueKnee Navigator calls you back within one business day and introduces you to the office. One call, no texts. The practice confirms its dates with you.

After surgery

What happens after surgery?

The TrueKnee recovery program: education timed to your surgery date, check-ins that become your Recovery Score, and a clear answer on who to call. It is the same program for every TrueKnee patient.

Who do I call if something is wrong?

Your surgeon’s practice, on the number it gives you, and 911 in an emergency. TrueKnee is not a medical service and does not answer urgent problems.

Your information

What does TrueKnee keep about me, and who sees it?

Your surgical record is yours: your operative notes and postoperative X-rays are released to you. What you share through TrueKnee carries forward to your practice with your permission, so you do not fill out the same paperwork twice. Research use is voluntary, separate, and not yet open. The privacy page has the detail.

Will TrueKnee text me?

Asking to connect sends no texts; a Navigator calls. If you create an account, your sign-in code arrives by text. Any other text comes only with your consent and stops when you reply STOP. The program terms are published.

How new is TrueKnee?

New. The first TrueKnee surgeons were designated in September 2026, and the TrueKnee registry begins with the first recorded TrueKnee operations. The surgeons are not new: each has practised joint replacement for years. The outcomes shown on this website are counted from the registry, never typed in, which is why they begin empty.

Your next step.

Choose a TrueKnee surgeon and ask to connect. A TrueKnee Navigator calls you back within one business day.
