After surgery

What your recovery looks like.

No one can promise how your knee will feel or how fast it will heal. We can tell you exactly what happens, and who is with you at each step.

  1. The night before, and the day after.

A text to your own phone the evening before surgery and on your first day after, so you know what comes next.

  2. Every day for the first two weeks.

A one-minute check-in on your pain, movement, sleep and incision. Your answers become your Recovery Score, so you see the trend instead of guessing.

  3. If something is wrong.

Mark a warning sign, such as a fever, new calf pain or a fall, and the check-in tells you who to call now. With your permission your Navigator is told too. In an emergency, call 911.

  4. If you go quiet.

Four days in recovery without a check-in and your Navigator calls you. Someone notices.

  5. Week three to three months.

A check-in once a week, with a reminder. What you need to know arrives on the day it applies, not in a stack on the first day.

  6. Six weeks, three months, one year.

Your progress is gathered for you and your surgeon. At about three months and at one year, a short questionnaire asks how the knee is doing in your daily life.

  7. The goal you named.

Your Voyage ends on what you wanted back: the walk, the game, the trip. When you reach it, it is marked.

The TrueKnee recovery program is available now through participating practices. The films are AI-generated and illustrative, not TrueKnee patients. Your care team’s instructions always come first; check-ins describe your progress and do not predict it. Every knee replacement carries risks. Your TrueKnee Recovery ↗

Your Recovery Score

How your Recovery Score works.

Each check-in asks about your pain, your movement, your sleep and your incision. Your answers become a score from 0 to 100, so you see your own trend from week to week instead of comparing your knee to a friend’s hip. It is a trend from what you report, not a medical measurement, and a dip in week three is common. A warning sign, such as a fever, new calf pain or a fall, is never scored: the check-in tells you who to call now.

Your surgeon’s office sees the same trend. At about three months and at one year, a short questionnaire asks how the knee is doing in your daily life, and that answer joins TrueKnee’s own program results, every patient counted.

Before surgery

Questions to ask about your recovery.

The answers depend on you and your surgeon, which is exactly why to ask them before surgery. Write them down and bring them. On your Voyage, your Navigator works through them with you.

  1. When can I drive?
  2. When can I shower?
  3. Will I need a walker, and for how long?
  4. When can I sleep in my own bed?
  5. When can I travel?
  6. What is your pain plan, and how does it change as I heal?
  7. What is normal in week three, and what is not?
  8. Who do I call, day or night, if something worries me?
  9. If I stand, lift or drive for work, when could I return and with what limits?
  10. Whoever helps me at home: what should they know before week one?
